What’s in your tool kit?

Generally, the tankless water heater can be completely dismantled using a long neck phillips head screwdriver.

Learn more about some of tools needed to provide maintenance and service to a tankless installation.

Gas Manometer

Gas manometer measures gas pressure. Noritz recommends a digital gas manometer than can read in inches of water column. Its not sufficient to use an analog manometer, the pressure readings need precision to within 0.01″wc.

Multimeter

Multimeter provides accurate voltage readings for all the major components, thermistor resistance measurements, and amp readings for the flame rods. An electrical checkpoints page is included tape to the inside front cover for reference.

Thermostat Remote

For newer units, every heater comes with a remote. The remote is your universal access tool to set temperature for the heater and especially useful tool for the contractor to collect diagnostics on the heaters performance in real time.

Air Compressor

A dirty installation site can affect the performance of the tankless water heater. Clean combustion air is required to mix in with gas and provide an ideal ratio of air and gas for combustion. Good combustion is typically indicated by blue flame. Use the air compressor to clean out the unit including the air intake, exhaust, and burner if abnormal combustion becomes an issue.

Descale Kit

There are commonly available descale kit packages in the market that include all the components necessary to complete is periodic service. The descale kit is comprised of a minimum 1/6 hp submersible pump, 5 gallon bucket, washing machine hose lines, sample descale agent, and most importantly the heater has to be installed with isolation valve kit (sold separately) to facilitate periodic service.
